I won’t spoil you anything, and certainly isn’t a peachy beach party with Energon daiquiris for the Autobots at the end of the story. You know, that things happen for a reason, even bad things. I really enjoyed A LOT this comic book, especially since really cool things happened to Starscream (my favorite transformer), however, if you read the quote in this segment of the review, well, I was expecting an apocalypse, since if in the “original” story Optimus Prime died but at the end the good guys won, well, I thought that in some bizarre twist of events, the reason of Optimus Prime still alive would trigger something really bad. A simple turn to the left can avert catastrophe while a right turn can trigger an apocalypse.ĭon’t get me wrong. But, back then, it was Optimus Prime, the transformer that everybody wanted.ĭefinitely it was an excellent idea, to explore what would happened if Optimus Prime didn’t died in his final battle against Megatron.Ī single decision can change the fate of the universe. Current generations (no blaming, quite understandable) they are more attracted to Bumblebee, since he is nowadays (in the live-action theatrical films) an extremely cool kickin’-butts Chevrolet Camaro. You have to understand that, back then, Optimus Prime was THE transformer, since he was a big freightliner truck, powerful, wise and with indisputable leadership skills. I watched the movie in theater, when I was a kid, back in 1986, and certainly it was a total shock to see that the mighty leader of the Autobots was dying, and even worse when the movie was barely beginning. The key chosen moment to explore in this comic book (as you may already noticed in the information displayed on the cover) is taken from Transformers: The Animated Movie (1986) when Optimus Prime died in battle against Megatron, barely in the first act of the theatrical presentation. THAT’S THE TRANSFORMER YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ![]() So, this comic book is totally accessible to anybody interested on it. Then, you start to read the “alternate” story with the assistance of a narrator indicating the key moments when the continuity is suffering twists. Since, this comic book begins describing how the “original” incident happened, in case you aren’t familiarized with it. If all other comic books of this event share the same format, I have to say that it’s a really good one. I wasn’t awared about this IDW event, but I found this comic book in the shelves of my local comic book store, since I noticed that it was labeled as “one-shot”, so I don’t see any reason of why not buying it. It also confirms that the correct name of this release as Alternate Universe Optimus Prime. The closed box resembles Optimus Prime chest with one broken window and the other one showing Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus and Arcee in a clear reference to Prime’s death scene from the G1 Transformers movie. This is our first look at the box of the previously leaked gray and black redeco of Earthrise Leader Optimus Prime with a new battle damaged head.
